Maker:  Herbert Fritz KNOPF,

Markneukirchen, GDR (the former East

Germany).

Type:  Bb/A+ single

Bell throat profile: medium

Alloy: silver plated yellow brass

Bell flare: detachable

Visual/cosmetic condition: the silver plate is very worn

in many places and there are, inevitably other visual

signs that the horn has had a very full life. There is a

small patch, measuring 1.5 x 9 cm, expertly applied,

near the bell rim.

Further details: despite its much-used appearance, this

wonderfully-playing H.F. Knopf horn probably

dates from the late 1940s-early 1950s, when

all high quality brass instruments were hand-made by a

single 'master craftsman'.

Although it has a detachable bell flare, the horn is very

light in weight (2.02kg), feels beautifully balanced in

the hands, and plays as if it still has many years

of useful musical life remaining.

Its high register in particular is extraordinarily clear

and 'easy to play', with excellent intonation.

Case: 'Fusion' very well-padded gigbag with many

storage pockets and backpack straps.
