WELTKLANG compensating double
£475.00
'WELTKLANG' is a traditional retail name, at
least 60 years old, used by Meister HANS
HOYER for his factory-made horns;
so, in effect, a Weltklang is a Hoyer,
made in the former GDR (East Germany).
This beautifully lightweight (2.1 kg) yellow-brass
F/Bb compensating horn is engraved, on the
front of its bell throat:
'SUPPLIED BY PAXMAN LONDON'.
Its build-quality is good, as is its valve compression.
Cosmetically, there are a few patches that strengthen
the brass in some vulnerable places; the brass
surfaces, being unlacquered, are generally quite tarnished,
but can be restored to a shine by metal polish plus some
hard work!
The slightly awkward position of the thumb/ 4th valve
makes it more suitable for a player with a larger
sized hand: The small hands of many young players
often cannot cope with a left hand stretch that is too
wide (although there is usually some scope for a brass
technician to re-position the finger hook, or, less easily, the
4th valve lever)
Generally, a robust, inexpensive 'Intermediate'
horn that plays responsively over the whole range,
and will take a young player up to Grade 8.
It comes in a Paxman fibreglass case.
NB: The horn's bell is the normal, standard size,
although the camera angle makes it look enormous!
NNB: it is currently housed with its owner in North
London, UK.
