A superb Bb/F/Eb-alto full triple horn

by ENGELBERT SCHMID, the innovative maker

in Mindelzell, Germany.

This screw-bell, lacquered (99% OK) gold-brass horn

plays beautifully. It comes with a 'W' flare with a nickel

silver garland/kranz.

Not only does the Eb alto side make a warmer, more

complex sound than an F alto, but the Bb horn's high

register is also spectacularly clear and fluent.

The ingenious overall design incorporates a detachable

H-shaped Bb tuning slide extension which can be

removed, putting the horn in B natural, so as to be able

to use, e.g. Eb fingerings for difficult passage-work in E.

Typical instances are e.g. the Octet by Spohr, and

Weber's Concertino in E. Similarly very useful is the

extra 'H piece', which, combined with the main slide,

puts the two lower horns into A and E.

There are 3 water keys, (conventional type), a

detachable duck's foot/flipper and an adjustable finger

hook to cater for all hand sizes.

Cosmetically/visually, there is one VERY tiny

ding, having absolutely no effect on the instrument’s

playing qualities, and a small amount of brown lacquer

'bleed' near the screw rings.

This lovely horn comes in its original Schmid 'suitcase'

with several side pockets and backpack straps.
