YAMAHA 668

A very fine yellow brass full double horn, the
YAMAHA Model YHR-668 embodies all the virtues of a
'medium-large' horn, plus additional security in the high
register.
The instrument, serial number 001999, is in good
overall condition, with excellent valve compression.
There are just a very few small areas of blemished lacquer,
(worn or scratched),and some very minor dings that are
purely 'cosmetic', with no effect on the horn's playing
qualities.
The horn plays beautifully, with a rich, medium-dark
sound, and lots of ‘projection’.
It has a water key on the leadpipe, which is gold-brass,
therefore resistant to internal corrosion.
Distance from finger hook to 4th valve lever: 9.3 cm, very
close to the 'optimum' of 9.5 cm used by many horn makers.
NB: This is a very important specification that is often
neglected or overlooked by horn sellers, makers and even
some teachers. The small hands of a young player usually
cannot cope with a left hand stretch that is too wide
(although there is sometimes some scope for a brass
technician to re-position either the finger hook, or, less
easily, the 4th valve lever).
This lovely horn is very recommendable to a player
looking for a reasonably priced, rich and full-sounding
instrument with character, accuracy and personality.
Its 'sub-£2K' price qualifies it for a parallel
listing in the 'Intermediate' category, although it is
a professional-quality horn.
Weight: 2.5 kg
Case: original Yamaha, in good condition, all its latches
secure.
