BOOSEY & CO 'Sotone' piston horn with F crook and optional E flat crook
£200.00
BOOSEY & CO silver plated piston 'French horn'
with F crook and optional Eb crook
Date: 1928
Bell throat profile: small
Alloy: silver plated brass
Visual / cosmetic condition: the silver plate is maybe 60% intact, generally quite worn, with the brass showing through in several places. There are several small dings on the horn body and the crook, but nothing that impairs the horn’s good playing qualities. NB: the low price of the horn reflects its much-used condition.
Valve compression: moderately good; the horn plays very well when
the pistons are oiled, thereby improving their compression.
Case: not provided; several reasonably-priced, much-
used cases or gig-bags are available
Further details: the internal taper of the horn's crook receiver
is compatible with old-style Paxman crooks (approx. 1982-
1995) and Webb-Halstead crooks/couplers (1989-2014).
The horn's playing angle is more 'open', less acute than that
of many other similar Sotones.
Optionally available for an extra £60 is a vintage French Eb
crook, very 'cosmetically challenged', but which plays well,
with the horn's tuning slides pulled out for intonation
purposes.
