good.

a generic copy of a Denis Wick #7, very good

condition.

Further details: An excellent ‘starter’

instrument for a beginner; or maybe a logical

upgrade from a ‘mini horn’/ ‘kinder horn’;

also, an ‘improver’ horn for an intermediate

player aiming for Grades 3-6, maybe even

Grade 8.  About 60 years ago I passed the

ABRSM Grade 8 exam playing an almost

identical horn!

The 'Primo' has a very comfortable left hand

position, very similar to that of the original

Paxman ‘Studenti’, (distance from the finger

hook to the 4th valve lever 10 cm) and is

similar in weight to that model.

It plays with a round, centred tone, has

excellent intonation and, because of the

Bb side’s ‘freedom of blow’, very easy

pitching.

This model and the ‘Studenti’ of which it is a

copy have an almost iconic status; aimed

at ‘Beginner to Intermediate’ players with a

modest budget of less than £1K, they are

probably the best compensating double horns

in that category.
