W. BROWN & SONS 19th century PISTON HORN with 2 crooks

This horn is one of three W.Brown & Sons instruments in a former private collection which is now being dispersed.

 

Specifications: 3 Périnet valves as a detachable sauterelle with 11.2 mm central bore; nickel plated tuning slides.

Crooks: F (not by Brown) and A.

Collapsible finger hook.

Inscribed on the garland: W. BROWN & SONS MAKERS 323 KENNINGTON ROAD LONDON No 1019.

 

This horn is listed in the online 'List of surviving W. Brown & Sons brass instruments': http://homepages.ed.ac.uk/am/gdbl.html

where its date of manufacture is suggested as 'circa 1886'.

 

There is no case, but several suitable cases are available at reasonable cost.
