Alexander's 'Geyer model', the 1103, is the perfect

double horn for the player wanting the 'traditional Alex

sound' from an instrument that is more free-

blowing than the ubiquitous '103'.

Our current lacquered gold-brass horn's overall

condition can accurately be described as 'very good if not

totally immaculate'.

There are some absolutely miniscule 'dings' in

the bell flare, and a very small depression in the tubing that

emerges from the 4th valve (seen in photos 2 and 3).

It was recently serviced by Will Spencer, Bordon, UK.

The horn has an attractive 'ring' to the middle and high

registers, plus a rich sonority lower down the range.

It is very easy to move around flexibly on this instrument,

whereas some other Alexanders (e.g. many 103s) seem to

'get stuck' in the middle register.

It is quite light in weight: 2.395kg, and furthermore the

comfort of the left-hand position is ensured by an adjustable

thumb-plate on the linkage to the 4th rotor.

In summary, this is a lovely, versatile horn, at a very

attractive price.
