A superb PAXMAN

Model 45MT

Bb/A+/F alto

in lacquered yellow brass, with titanium rotors, detachable bell flare and detachable F extension incorporating a manual rotary valve to switch between F and A+. Included is an additional, shorter main tuning slide for European pitch(es) higher than A 440.

This is the current model of Paxman descant horn, in the post-1985 layout as designed by the late, great Dick Merewether. Dick in his later years was a great evangelist for 'Medium' rather than 'Large' bore (although, strangely, his first design for Paxman in the late 1950s and early 1960s was a 'large' bell rather similar to the vintage Kruspe bell but with some of the 'corners' smoothed out.)

The instrument is ‘almost-new’ condition, and, of course, incorporates Paxman’s ingenious ‘dual bore’ system where the Bb and F alto lengths each have their own appropriate tapered sections for accurate response and intonation.

Furthermore, the F alto horn’s cylindrical tubing, which includes its tuning slides, has a narrower internal diameter so as to equalise its resistance to that of the Bb horn.

This lovely horn, formerly owned by the renowned international soloist Richard Watkins, plays beautifully over the entire range, with a clear, focussed and ringing sound that is nevertheless flexible in its palette of potential tonal shadings via skilful use of the right hand plus embouchure 'vocalisation'.

It is truly the ‘horn that has everything you will ever need’, especially if you are a 'high player'.

It comes in a Marcus Bonna 'airline friendly' case in good but 'well-used' condition.
