A lovely French piston horn by ANTOINE COURTOIS,

with crooks for F  and E flat.

Its pistons, by W. BROWN & SONS,  form a  detachable

sauterelle;  the 2 tubes for hand horn playing, seen in the

photos,  are detachable extensions to the tuning slide, which is

inserted in place of the valve sauterelle.

Of course, this makes the hand horn incredibly light in weight.

The instrument plays even better as a hand horn than as a piston

horn, with a light, pure sound, and some very subtle 'stopped'

notes.

Its much-used case is the vintage 'boat-style' type.

The photos can be viewed in greater detail
