Maker: H. F. KNOPF, Markneukirchen,

Germany

Type:  F/Bb double

Bell throat profile: Medium

Alloy: lacquered yellow brass

Bell flare: detachable

Valve compression: rotors 2,3,4: very good; rotor 1:

good.

Visual/cosmetic condition: quite good on the corpus, -

on which the lacquer is worn in several places; excellent

lacquer on the bell flare.  There is one small oval nickel

silver patch on the leadpipe.

Case: Paxman modern MB style 'suitcase'.

Further details: a lovely vintage H.F. Knopf horn,

probably dating from the 1950s, when nearly all high

quality brass instruments were hand-made by a single

'master craftsman'.

The horn plays wonderfully over the entire range, with

the potential for an intense, focussed sound and with a

well-centred high register.

Its 'sub-£2K' price qualifies it for a parallel

listing in the 'Intermediate' category, although it is

a professional-quality horn.
