Maker:  MEISTER HANS HOYER

Model: 801M, based on the Geyer design

Made in GDR, the former East Germany

Type: F/Bb (or Bb/F) full double

Serial number: 171857M

Alloy: unlacquered yellow brass

Bell flare: fixed

Bell throat: M (medium)

Weight: 2.56 kg

Visual / cosmetic condition: very good generally;

since this is a 2nd hand horn, there are inevitable

signs of use, merely a few tiny dings and surface

blemishes with no effect on the way it plays.

The only negative feature is that the horn's original

hard, shaped case  (with a detachable canvas cover)

has a broken handle. However,  it is possible to buy

a good lightweight case with backpack straps online

(e.g. the 'Champion')  for less than £100.

Further details: this virtually 'iconic' Hoyer horn, in

continuous production since the early 1960s, is a

lovely instrument with very good 'note

security', a focussed, compact sound and

a flexible range of tone colours.

With quite a wide left hand 'grip' or span

(11 cm) from the finger hook to the 4th valve lever,

it is best suited to an adult player or possibly

a teenager with larger-than-average

hands.

NB: the horn is currently housed near Lichfield,

Staffordshire, UK, with its owner.
