A very fine Paxman Series 2, judged by many teachers and players to be the finest 'Intermediate quality' horn ever made.

Our current horn was recently serviced, including valve refurbishment (cleaning the rotors and tightening the bearings). Slightly less heavy than some later Paxman series 2 instruments, it plays with a clean and focussed response in all registers, its high range in particular having a very reassuring 'slotted-in' quality.

Weighing 2.55kg, the horn is made of lacquered yellow brass; it was re-lacquered 3 or 4 years ago. There are just a few minor cosmetic surface blemishes, but these slight imperfections in no way detract from the horn’s very fine playing qualities.

It comes in a Paxman black fibreglass case in good condition, with fitting points for a shoulder strap.

A water-key, not usually found on the Series 2 model, is installed on the lower curve of the leadpipe. A duck's-foot is fitted, and there is currently no finger hook.

Although technically an ‘Intermediate’ instrument, it is fully capable of professional use; it would be a superb upgrade for a young player who is currently playing a mini/kinderhorn or a Studenti-type compensator.

I enthusiastically recommend this excellent, increasingly rare, competitively priced horn.
