£795.00

Maker: 'GERHARD SCHNEIDER'

Model: 'Master Model', a generalised copy of an Alexander 103, its bell throat engraved ‘sponsored by Boosey & Hawkes’. The older 103 had a central bore of only 11.9 mm, as does this horn, rather than the current 12.1 mm.

Made in 'GDR', formerly East Germany, this horn was produced by the ‘Hans Hoyer’ factory, now 'B & S'.

Type: F/ Bb full double

Bore/ Throat: medium

Alloy: silver plated yellow brass

Bell flare: fixed

Valve compression: very good

Water key, conventional type, on the leadpipe.

Weight: 2.6 kg

Visual/ cosmetic condition: good, with just a few very minor dings and some moderate scratching to the plating. There is a small nickel silver patch (about 2cm x 0.5cm) on the inner bell spout.

'Well-used' original hard case.

Further details: A robustly-built 'Intermediate' horn which, although slightly on the heavy side, has a more compact shape than some modern equivalents such as the Conn 6D or the Holton 378. It has a comfortable left hand position and, more importantly - plays with a rich sonority over the whole range.

A very recommendable Intermediate instrument, and furthermore, excellent value, for only about 30% of the cost of a 2nd hand Alexander 103.
