Model: ‘Primo’, a copy of the Paxman 'Studenti'

Type:  F/Bb compensating double

NB: This horn is NOT the older and rather infamous Anborg with an awkward left hand stretch to the 4th valve. It has a very comfortable left hand position, very similar to that of its ‘cousins’ the Paxman ‘Studenti’ and Paxman ‘Primo’.

Bore / Throat: medium

Alloy:  yellow-brass

Bell flare:  fixed

Lacquer: 80% OK, with some slight pitting of the brass surfaces in a few places.

Valve compression: good.

Visual/ cosmetic condition: ‘has seen some use’ but generally ‘good to moderately good’. This is reflected in the price.

Weight: 2.52 kg

Water-key: conventional type, on the leadpipe.

Case: hard case in ‘well used’ condition but still serviceable. Alternative new lightweight cases with shoulder straps or back-pack straps are available for £45-£60.

Mouthpiece: a very good silver plated mouthpiece that is a generic copy of a Yamaha mouthpiece.

Further details: An excellent ‘starter’ instrument for a beginner; a logical upgrade from a ‘mini horn’/ ‘kinder horn’; and an ‘improver’ horn for the more advanced player up to about Grades 6-7.

It plays with a sweet and centred tone; however the F horn’s ‘freedom of blow’ is slightly less than that of the Paxman Primo and Studenti models elsewhere on this web site. Its Bb side is excellent, though.
