Model: ‘SPECIAL’

Type:  F/Bb compensating double

Bore / Throat: medium

Alloy:  yellow-brass

Bell flare:  fixed

Lacquer: 80% OK, with some slight pitting of the brass surfaces in a few places.

Valve compression: good.

Visual / cosmetic condition: 'on the right side of scruffy', with some scratched, worn lacquer and a few inconsequential dings. The horn ‘has seen some use’ but generally it is in ‘good to moderately good’ condition. This is reflected in the inexpensive price.

Weight: 2.5 kg

Water-key: conventional type, on the leadpipe.

Adjustable finger hook.

Original hard case. An excellent brand new lightweight backpack-style case is available for an extra £59.

Mouthpiece: German, medium sized, silver plated, in good condition.

Further details: A good beginner instrument; a logical upgrade from a ‘mini' / ‘kinder horn’; an ‘improver’ horn for the more advanced young player up to about Grades 6-7.

NB: This horn is NOT the older and rather infamous Anborg with an awkward left hand stretch to the 4th valve. It has a comfortable left hand position, very similar to that of its ‘cousins’, the Anborg 'Primo', Paxman ‘Studenti’ and Paxman ‘Primo’.  Its thumb plate and valve levers (lengthened by dimes) are within easy reach of a small hand.

This rather compact but technically full-size horn plays with a sweet and centred tone. Although the F horn’s ‘freedom of blow’ is slightly less than that of e.g. a Paxman Studenti model, its Bb side is open, clear and ringing.
