Maker:  W. MONKE, Köln, Germany

Type: Bb/A+ single

Bell throat profile: medium

Tubing bore/ internal diameter: 12mm

Alloy: lacquered yellow brass

Bell flare: detachable

Weight: 2.00 kg

Visual/ cosmetic condition: good, with some very slightly worn lacquer in the usual places, and a few very minor dings and scratches, but these are purely cosmetic issues that have no effect on the horn’s playing qualities.

Valve compression: EXCELLENT. The horn’s owner has very recently had all four rotors nickel-plated and lapped in, an exacting and expensive procedure resulting in a rather spectacular all-round improvement in its playing together with a raising of its pitch from what was formerly about A=440, up to A=443. Its main tuning slide is long enough to accommodate this pitch rise.

A superb player, hand-made in Germany, with a clear, round but light sound, and a very focussed high register.

Case: hard case for fixed-bell horn. Alternative detachable-bell gig-bags and cases are available for £45 to £60.

NB: Although a professional-quality horn, it is also listed in the 'Intermediate' category on account of its modest price.
